The Petroleum Equipment and Services Association (PESA) Supply Chain Committee recently met at Sigma Fasteners for a roundtable discussion on digitalization in the oil and gas sector.

Led by committee member Chris Welsh, CEO of OFS Portal, the roundtable participants discussed what a digital company looks like, digital terminology as well as current and future digital solutions.

Ultimately, the committee concluded, digitalization, data analysis, and elimination of extraneous manual processes will allow the supply chain to better react to customers and their needs, although initial implementation may be costly.

The committee noted that oil and gas companies are in different places when it comes to digitalization, especially because there are so many suppliers with many differences between the various organized. The oil and gas industry needs to someone to drive the standard, the group said.

“In order to be successful in the world of digitalization in our industry, partnerships, and relationships will be key,” committee member Kevin Joyce of Baker Hughes, a GE company, said.

The Supply Chain Committee will continue to discuss digitalization during the 2018 PESA Supply Chain Seminar Feb. 22 in Houston and at roundtables throughout 2018.
