AEP Ohio, an American Electric Power company, today issued on Wednesday a Request for Proposals (RFP) for up to 400 megawatts (MW) solar energy generation resources in Ohio.

Proposals will be evaluated based on the criteria outlined in the RFP. The company will give preference to sites that are located in Appalachian Ohio, create permanent manufacturing jobs in the area and commit to hiring Ohio military veterans.

Proposals are due by Dec. 18. All proposal responses should be directed to Navigant, the independent RFP manager for the RFP.

Under an agreement approved by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) in November 2016, AEP Ohio committed to proposing 400 MW of solar generation and 500 MW of wind generation produced in Ohio. PUCO must approve all projects under the agreement.

Customers of AEP Ohio currently receive renewable generation service through long-term power purchase agreements with the 10 MW Wyandot Solar Farm near Upper Sandusky, Ohio; the 100 MW Fowler Ridge wind farm in Benton and Tippacanoe Counties, Indiana; and the 99 MW Timber Road wind farm in Paulding County, Ohio.
