Chevron Corporation recently announced a strategic partnership with Microsoft Corp. through which the company will act as Chevron’s primary cloud service provider for the next seven years to support the use of advanced technologies.

Chevron will use Microsoft Azure to accelerate the adoption of advanced technologies, such as analytics and Internet of Things (IoT), to improve performance and efficiencies.

“We embrace every opportunity that streamlines our workflows, gives us insights into more efficient operations and helps us compete,” Joe Geagea, Chevron’s executive vice president of Technology, Projects, and Services, said. “We already have a head start in digitizing our oilfields, but we want to accelerate our deployment of new technologies that position us to increase our revenues, lower our costs, and improve the safety and reliability of our operations.”

The strategic partnership will also include joint innovation related to technology and business processes. This will involve identifying areas to influence Microsoft’s roadmap of future products and how Microsoft solutions can help Chevron solve business challenges.

“With Chevron and Microsoft, intelligent energy meets intelligent cloud,” Jason Zander, corporate vice president of Microsoft Azure, said. “Our global cloud infrastructure – which has more regions around the world than any other cloud provider – will enable Chevron to leverage our capabilities across areas like high-performance computing and Internet of Things to become a truly digital business.”
