Illinois Commerce Commission seeking members for working group on emerging energy technologies

The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) announced this week that it is seeking members for a working group that will assess the capabilities emerging technologies and integrates them into the grid as part of its NextGrid: Illinois’ Utility of the Future study.

The New Technology Deployment and Grid Integration working group is the first of seven groups identified to be of the study. The group will explore technologies such as distributed energy resources (DERs) and electric vehicles. It will assess the role of a distribution system operator in new technology integration and system planning as well as survey methods for valuing new technology’s impacts on the distribution system, the environment, and the customer.

“Our intention is for the working groups to be diverse and representative of the stakeholders in the energy community, while still being manageable in size to encourage productivity,” ICC Chairperson Brien J. Sheahan said. “It is important for all stakeholders and interested parties to have a voice in the process. While it is not possible for everyone to serve on a working group, we are also welcoming feedback on the various agendas and topics of discussion that can be submitted through the NextGrid website.”

The ICC will accept nominations for the working group until Nov. 6. The group will hold its first meeting on Nov. 17.
