Cypress Creek Renewables announced Tuesday a workforce development partnership with Greenville Technical College in Greenville, South Carolina, that will train students for jobs in the solar industry.

The partnership will enable Greenville Tech to create new curriculum, hire instructors and provide tuition assistance to students. The program will also feature a focus on veterans.

“Greenville Tech has been a leading solar training provider in the region since the early 2000s and has graduated hundreds of students who have gone on to join the solar industry,” Cypress Creek Renewables said in a press release. “Partnering with the college was a natural fit for us.”

Cypress Creek Renewables said that it expects to fill 10,000 local construction jobs to complete the installation of two gigawatts of solar facilities over the next five years, representing a $1.5 billion investment.

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster attended the launch event. Rep. Mike Burns (R-SC) and Rep. Dwight Loftis (R-SC), who represent Greenville County in the South Carolina House of Representatives, also participated in the event.
