First 40 customers of Con Edison, O&R Utilities in Puerto Rico regain power
Weeks after the hurricane-induced devastation in Puerto Rico, Con Edison and Orange and Rockland Utilities (O&R Utilities) have restored power to a cluster of customers in San Juan.
This first milestone in the recovery effort has restored power to 40 customers in the Old San Juan part of the city. More than 100 line workers, technical specialists and support personnel were dispatched by the companies this season to aid recovery efforts. That labor includes by and large reconstruction of the infrastructure, including replacement of poles, cable, and transformers.
“Our crews got to Puerto Rico and started right in on the demanding work of restoring power,” John McAvoy, chairman and CEO of Con Edison, said. “We empathize with the people of Puerto Rico and will keep working day and night to help them rebuild the home they love.”
Both utilities are owned by Consolidated Edison, Inc., one of the country’s largest investor-owned energy companies. The services provided in Puerto Rico represent a portion of their $49 billion in assets nationwide.
