Entergy Mississippi investing $10 million investment in Hinds County electric grid

Entergy Mississippi said in a recent news release that it has invested $10 million in the Hinds County, Mississippi’s electric grid through completed and ongoing substation work, equipment replacement, and vegetation management.

“This is part of a multi-year investment designed to strengthen all parts of our grid to help reduce power outages,” Rob Logan, Entergy Mississippi customer service representative in Clinton, said. “A strong, reliable power grid is critical to our safety and way of life, and it’s necessary for job creation and growth.”

The company will spend approximately $6.2 million on two new distribution substations, the Tinnin Road substation in northern Hinds County and the Wynndale substation south of Byram. Entergy expects them to be in service by the end of 2017 or early 2018.

More than $2.2 million will go toward replacing and upgrading existing equipment. The company will spend approximately $500,000 on reliability projects in areas that have experienced numerous outages over a short period of time.

Entergy will also spend more than $1.6 million to trim vegetation from 515 miles of line in Clinton, Byram, Terry, Edwards, and Bolton, Mississippi.

The company is also spending approximately $16.6 million on similar projects in Jackson, Mississippi. Last year, Entergy invested more than $66.5 million in reliability projects in its 45-county Mississippi service area.
