The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) named Thomas A. “Tom” Fanning the new EEI chairman on Tuesday.

Christopher M. Crane, Patricia Vincent-Collawn and Gregory E. Abel were also named as this year’s vice chairmen, serving one-year terms.

“We are excited to announce today that Tom Fanning has been elected EEI chairman,” EEI President Tom Kuhn said. “Since 2013, Tom has been an invaluable member of our leadership team, while serving as an EEI vice chairman and as co-chair of the Electricity Subsector Coordinating Council. Tom is a visionary leader and is at the forefront in developing innovative customer solutions as our industry continues its transformation.”

Fanning, Crane, Vincent-Collawn and Abel will use their leadership in further advancing clean energy innovation, infrastructure, and development for its partners and customers

“In an increasingly electrified economy, America’s electric power industry can invent a better energy future by partnering to deliver innovative solutions for customers,” Fanning said. “As EEI chairman, I look forward to collaborating with leaders across the industry to find new and better ways to serve the customers and families who depend on us.”

Fanning is currently the chairman, president and CEO of the Southern Company in Atlanta. Crane is the president and CEO of the Exelon Corporation based in Chicago, while Vincent-Collawn is the president and CEO of PNM resources in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Abel serves as the president and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway Energy in Des Moines, Iowa.

The EEI is an international board that represents investor-owned electric companies, international electric companies and industry associations. The organization’s chairmen serve one-year, rotating terms.
