Department of Energy researchers claims 33 R&D 100 Awards
Researchers at U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) national laboratories recently claimed 33 of 100 annual awards given by R&D Magazine for the introduction of exceptional new products and processes to the marketplace in the previous year.
An independent panel of judges evaluates products and processes for the R&D 100 Awards based on technical significance, uniqueness, and usefulness across industry, government, and academic sectors. Since 1964, DoE researchers have claimed 800 R&D 100 awards.
“These awards demonstrate the incredible value that our national laboratories continue to provide to our nation, and show why the Department of Energy is one of the largest supporters of technology transfer in the federal government,” Energy Secretary Rick Perry said. “The ingenuity and innovation at our national labs helped unleash the American energy revolution, and are showing the way to a more secure and more prosperous future.”
During the Nov. 17 awards presentation, DoE researchers also received a special recognition for the most outstanding technology developments with consumer potential. Many of the 33 awards were given to projects that were developed at national labs with private companies or academic institutions.
Researchers from Ames, Argonne, Lawrence Berkeley, Lawrence Livermore, Los Alamos, National Energy Technology, Oak Ridge, Pacific Northwest and Sandia national labs earned R&D 100 awards.
