For the next four years, Vesna Dimitrijevic will be on the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards, as recently appointed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).

In this capacity, Dimitrijevic will be one of an independent group of technical experts who advise the NRC on nuclear-related safety issues.

While Dimitrijevic has spent her career working with reactors, this appointment represents her first time overseeing them from the governmental side, rather than the private sector. That said, she has authored or co-authored more than 20 journal publications and conference papers on probabilistic risk assessment, as well as risk-informed methodologies and decision making processes.

Dimitrijevic has worked as a technical consultant for AREVA Inc., during which time she took the lead on numerous projects. Among them were probabilistic risk assessment studies for new reactor designs and certifications. She also headed 30 risk-informed PRA applications for nuclear power plants throughout the country and has helped develop applications for third generation nuclear power plants, the Electric Power Research Institute’s Risk Informed Inservice Inspection methodology and the EPRI Internal Flooding and Early Fire PRA methods.
