National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) President John W. Betkoski III recently appointed Virginia State Corporation Commission Chair Judith Williams Jagdmann to be the new chair of NARUC’s Committee on Electricity.

The Committee on Electricity works to develop and advance policies that support a reliable, adequate and affordable supply of electricity and aims to improve the quality and effectiveness of regulation through education, cooperation and exchange of information in collaboration with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and other federal agencies.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to chair this important committee,” Jagdmann said. “NARUC’s value is the sharing of ideas and exploration of issues, from which all state energy regulators benefit. I look forward to leading those discussions on important electricity issues facing our respective states.”

Jagdmann previously served as the co-vice chair of the electricity committee and has also chaired NARUC’s Task Force on Military Workforce Development. She is the current president of the Mid-Atlantic Conference of Regulatory Utilities Commissioners.

“Judge Jagdmann is not only an experienced regulator but as the former vice chair, she possesses the knowledge and understanding needed to ensure that the Committee on Electricity continues to provide a platform that advances policies and information that help serve the public interest,” Betkoski said.

The NARUC President appoints committee chairs for a one-year term and may reappoint them for a maximum of three consecutive terms.
