Entergy Louisiana, LLC recently announced that it will begin construction in Jefferson Davis Parish in January 2018 on an approximately $100 million technological upgrade to its electric power transmission grid.
“This project represents Entergy Louisiana’s ongoing commitment to providing reliable, affordable electricity to our customers while helping grow our state’s economy,” Chip Arnould, senior region manager of customer service for Entergy Louisiana, said.
The upgrade covers approximately 900 square miles, most of which is within Jefferson Davis Parish. It includes the construction of some new transmission lines and the rebuilding of many existing lines. In total, approximately 58 miles of lines will be added or upgraded.
“The vast area the project covers makes it one of the largest Entergy Louisiana transmission projects to date. It’s an exciting improvement to support the region’s growth,” Arnould said.
A few locations will experience brief power outages. The project will also require lane closures and may cause possible traffic delays. Entergy has developed a communication plan to keep communities, businesses, organizations and government agencies updated on the project’s progress and warn them of planned outages and the location of construction zones.
The project is scheduled for completion by February 2020, dependent on weather and other factors.
