Nuclear Regulatory Commission executive receives Presidential Rank Award

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) announced Wednesday that Scott W. Moore, deputy director of the Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards, received a 2017 Presidential Rank Award, which recognizes career public servants for sustained noteworthy accomplishments.

“This is an extraordinary achievement and we are proud that Scott Moore’s dedication to this agency’s mission and his talent in helping us achieve that mission are being recognized with this prestigious award,” Executive Director for Operations Victor McCree said.

Moore began his work at the NRC in 1988 as a health physicist. He has also worked as a technical expert on radiological materials for former Chair Shirley Jackson as well as in various positions supporting safety and security in domestic uses of radioactive material. At an international level, he served as deputy director of the Office of International Programs. Moore became a member of the Senior Executive Service in 2004.

In his current position, Moore leads approximately 300 technical and corporate staff in activities related to nuclear fuel fabrication and processing, the licensing and regulatory oversight of industrial, academic and medical uses of radioactive sources, decommissioning reactor and materials sites, spent fuel storage, and low-level waste storage and disposal facilities.
