For its Tompkins County, New York service area, the energy company NYSEG has asked for developer-driven alternative solutions to meeting area gas demand, reliability, and supply.

“We strongly support an innovative approach to address reliability challenges,” Michael DeAngelo, program manager of Non-Wires Alternatives for AVANGRID–NYSEG’s parent company–said. “This is the first location we are evaluating for potential alternative solutions to maintain reliability and capacity needs associated with the NYSEG gas distribution system.”

Under a request for proposal, the company hopes these ideas will generate the evolution of energy structure. Under any plan put forward, they also seek the consideration of resources to address both current and future demands for Lansing, New York–an area presently under a natural gas moratorium for new customers.

Before bids officially begin, the company will host a Jan. 12, 2018, conference on the issue.
