ComEd energy efficiency program nets customer savings of $5B

As a result of an energy efficiency program first launched in 2008, ComEd announced this week that its customers have saved more than $5 billion on their energy bills.

This announcement, timed for National Energy Efficiency Day on Wednesday, also showcased the sheer scope of environmental savings. These efforts, which include more than 35 separate offers, yielded 53 billion pounds of CO2 emissions reductions and helped power 5.2 million homes for a year.

“The average monthly household bill is lower than it was a decade ago,” Joe Dominguez, ComEd CEO, said. “Thanks to the ComEd Energy Efficiency Program, the average customer has saved about $1,250 by participating in the offerings – that’s enough to cover the cost of an average residential energy bill for 15 months. We want customers to know there are options available to help them reduce their energy use and save money, especially as people spend more time at home.”

Offers provided under the umbrella of the larger program include both residential and business options.

At home, these include things like free scheduled home energy assessments either in-home or online — including a free installation of energy-saving smart appliances — rebates on qualifying smart thermostats and other ENERGY STAR certified appliances, and in-store discounts for more efficient LED light bulbs. At work, offers include free facility assessments to identify energy efficiency opportunities, additional LED incentives, and heating, ventilation and air conditioning component upgrade incentives.
