Public Service Company of Oklahoma to build larger Weatherford service center

The Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) announced on Thursday that it will construct a new service center for the Weatherford area that is twice as large as the current center and will allow emergency responders to act faster.

The current 4,500-square-foot Weatherford service center was built in 1989. The PSO said it has outgrown the space. Currently, the organization stores materials off-site due to limited space, making it more difficult for responders to report to emergencies and outages quickly, as they must pick up materials at a separate location when they receive a call.

The PSO will address these concerns with the construction of the new facility that will be approximately 9,810-square-feet and will include meeting rooms, an office space for employees, a storeroom, larger truck parking, and a “laydown yard” for equipment such as poles and transformers.

“We are extremely pleased to be getting this new facility, which will allow us to better serve our Weatherford-area customers,” Mike Hixson, PSO community affairs manager, said.  “The size of our new facility will provide more room from which to operate and to store equipment and materials.  That will translate into faster response times and better service for the nearly 10,000 customers served by our Weatherford-based employees.”

The project cost is estimated at $2.5 million. The facility will be located at 4600 Commerce in Weatherford, and the design will be compliant with the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. Construction is projected to be complete by the end of the year.
