NARUC makes several new committee leadership appointments

The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) announced last week that it made several new committee appointments to fill vacancies in leadership roles.

Commissioner Beth Trombold of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio was appointed the new co-vice chair of the Committee on Electricity and Kent Chandler, chair of the Kentucky Public Service Commission, (PSC) was picked to represent NARUC on the Electric Power Research Institute’s Board of Directors.

Both Trombold and Chandler fill roles vacated by Talina Mathews, who recently left the Kentucky Public Service Commission.

“We truly appreciate all of the effort and many contributions of Commissioner Emeritus Talina Mathews,” said NARUC President Paul Kjellander, who also leads the Idaho Public Utilities Commission.

Also, Kjellander selected Dianne Solomon, commissioner of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, to chair the Committee on Critical Infrastructure. Solomon replaces Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission Chair Gladys Brown Dutrieuille, whose term leading that committee ended. Dutrieuille will remain in NARUC leadership, assuming the at-large board seat vacated by Mathews.

“There were a lot of moving pieces — lots of dots to connect, but we have connected the right people to the right slots. These are all highly qualified and talented individuals who are committed to serving their states and the Association,” Kjellander said. “I also want to thank Chairman Dutrieuille for her outstanding leadership of our Committee on Critical Infrastructure. I am so pleased that she will continue to play a pivotal role in NARUC affairs as an at-large board member.”

The NARUC board consists of 20 members, plus the NARUC president, the first and second vice presidents, each past-president, and the chairs of all standing committees. Board appointments, made by the NARUC president, are for four-year terms.
