City of Tallahassee Commissioner Nancy Miller addressed the State of Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) on Thursday regarding the city’s energy management programs after Tallahassee was named the best power operations city in the U.S.
“Living in Florida’s Capital City, our 117,000 customers want conservation, a solar option, and the ability to determine their energy usage,” Miller said. “Implementing energy efficiency measures is often the simplest way to save on home energy bills, and the City works to help its residents conserve and reduce their energy bills.”
Tallahassee has the nation’s 26th largest public utility in the country, and its programs aim to make efficient energy technology accessible and affordable for everyone.
The American Public Power Association named Tallahassee the top city for power operations. Miller attributed the city’s success to its power programs, including the Energy Smart Plus Program, Neighborhood REACH, Double Rebates, and its Energy Efficiency Loan Programs.
Neighborhood REACH gives free home energy assessments to underserved, low-income neighborhoods. Families are also equipped with energy saving weatherization measures. The city also recently announced the construction of a community solar farm, which will allow customers to select their energy on their own terms.
PSC Chairman Julie Brown commended Miller on the city’s dedication to energy conservation for all residents, homeowners and business alike.
