Duke Energy Florida was recently honored by the Arbor Day Foundation as a Tree Line USA utility for the 10th consecutive year.

“We are honored to be recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation for our tree care programs for the 10th straight year,” Alex Glenn, Duke Energy Florida state president, said. “Trees are an important part of Florida’s beautiful natural environment. We strive to be good stewards of Florida’s trees and work to inform customers about planting the right tree in the right place so we can continue to provide safe and reliable energy.”

Tree Line USA promotes best practices in arboriculture in both public and private utilities, demonstrating the important of the co-existence between trees and power lines, and the need for the continued development of both in community growth.

Duke Energy Florida services 1.7 million customers across Florida, delivering approximately 9,100 megawatts of coal-fired and natural gas-fired electric capacity.

While trees and plant life are critical elements of Florida’s ecosystem, they are also troublesome for electricity providers, and without proper planning and maintenance, are one of the leading causes of power outages. Utilities companies aim to strike a balance between protecting their power line networks, while also safeguarding the environment.
