Las Vegas Sun Peak Generating Station reaches 25 years without lost-time accident

NV Energy’s Sun Peak Generating Station in Las Vegas celebrated 25 years without a lost-time accident and two years free of a recordable incident on Tuesday, an achievement that is rare for a generating station of its capacity.

“My colleagues at Sun Peak have taken [safety] to heart, demonstrating attention to detail and helping each other avoid unsafe conditions or acts,” NV Energy President and CEO Paul Caudill said. “Our greatest desire is that they return home safely every day.”

Kevin Geraghty, senior vice president of energy supply at NV Energy, said that a 25-year milestone is rare in electricity stations, given the constant exposure to high pressures, temperatures and voltages. He congratulated the team on its commitment to providing safe energy to its customers, around the clock.

As defined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Sun Peak employees have not reported a recordable incident in two years, further showing the station’s success in guaranteeing the safety of employees and customers alike. Since the natural gas-fired station went live in 1991, it has not experienced a lost-time accident.

Sun Peak is part of NV Energy’s fleet of energy facilities and resources. It services approximately 125,000 Nevada households, and also acts as an emergency back-up station for other facilities in NV Energy’s fleet.
