Customers of Toledo Edison can expect enhanced service reliability in the near future, following the completion of the installation of two new underground transformers, two additional control boxes and other improvement projects.

The projects are a part of a major investment by the FirstEnergy Corp. subsidiary in its downtown Toledo electric system this year, a plan that has required approximately $800,000 and months of labor by employees working to install protective devices, underground cable, transformers and relays in vaults located beneath downtown Toledo.

“Our 2016 maintenance program is strong, with a specific focus on downtown Toledo’s underground network,” Rich Sweeney, regional president of Toledo Edison, said. “Completing these downtown projects by the end of the summer assures our grid remains reliable through the fall and winter months, when work underground is more difficult to complete. In addition to our investments downtown, by the end of the year we will have invested millions on other infrastructure projects across our northwest Ohio service territory.”

Toledo Edison’s 2016 schedule extends to plans involving the replacement of underground cable in a number of areas, the installation of a new concrete vault top on Cherry Street, and the modification of service provided to the Promedica building and parking garage.
