Alliant Energy to reduce CO2 emissions 40 percent by 2030

Alliant Energy Corp. will make efforts to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 40 percent by 2030 from 2005 levels, the company said on Monday in its newly published 2016 Corporate Sustainability Report.

“Alliant Energy has been taking actions for many years to reduce emissions and this CO2 target is consistent with the clean energy path we’ve been following,” Alliant Energy Chairman, President and CEO Patricia Kampling said. “Our accomplishments highlight the power of collaboration with our customers and communities. By providing innovative and cost-effective solutions, we help our customers meet their sustainability goals today and in the future.”

Alliant Energy detailed its plan for advancing its clean energy portfolio and improving its service for customers, communities and employees in the report. The report also laid out the company’s commitment to decrease CO2, nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulfur dioxide (SO2) and mercury emissions. In addition to decreasing CO2 emissions by 40 percent, Alliant Energy also seeks to decrease NOx, SO2 and mercury emissions by 80, 90 and 90 percent by 2030, respectively.

Alliant Energy plans to reach its goals by increasing its portfolio of renewable energy resources, improving efficiency at natural gas-fired generating plants, and transitioning coal generation facilities.
