Entergy recently restored power to Louisiana flood victims who could safely receive power near the St. Amant, Sorrento and False River areas.

Some residents, however, experienced severe flood damage and cannot yet safely be reconnected to the grid.

“We thank our customers for their patience during this difficult recovery,” Entergy Vice President of Customer Service for Louisiana Dennis Dawsey said. “It will take us all time to get over this devastating loss for our region, but together we can rebuild and become stronger parishes, cities and communities. We will work closely with them to get their power back on. We appreciate their cooperation and patience.”

Historic floods hit south Louisiana on Aug. 12, starting as a tropical weather system with record-breaking rainfall and record-setting crests of local rivers, tributaries and bayous.

The flooding hit Baton Rouge first, continuing south and flooding homes for more than a week. Approximately 32,157 electric customers were impacted and 22,000 gas meters in Baton Rouge will need to be replaced due to water damage.

Entergy estimates that there are approximately 2,000 customers who cannot be reconnected to the grid due to flood damage.

Entergy sent more than 1,000 workers to respond to the emergency. Entergy serves more than one million customers, including 93,000 in the Baton Rouge area.
