The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) has been invited to present a technical paper at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics and Engineers (IEEE) Latin America conference this month.

NERC’s technical paper focuses on AC circuit outages and transmission equipment failure.

NERC staff will be in attendance at the IEEE Power Engineering Society’s Transmission and Distribution Latin America 2016 to deliver the paper, titled “North American AC Circuit Outages Initiated by Transmission Equipment Failures and Human Error.” The paper, authored by NERC Senior Vice President and Chief Reliability Officer Mark Lauby, Senior Director of Standards and Education Howard Gugel, and Principal Statistician Svetlana Ekisheva, offers a statistical analysis of forced AC circuit outages initiated by failed transmission equipment and human error.

The presentation will draw on results from the North American combined inventory and outage data gathered by the Transmission Availability Data System, offering recommended actions that could help address the risks involved with transmission equipment failures and human error.

The IEEE’s Latin America conference will be taking place on Sept. 22 in Morelia, Mexico, bringing together recognized worldwide experts, technical papers, tutorial courses and an industrial exposition, drawing on IEEE’s international membership as the world’s largest technical professional organization, with more than 420,000 individuals in more than 160 countries.
