Stoddard promoted to Dominion chief nuclear officer
Dominion Nuclear President and Chief Nuclear Officer David A. Heacock will retire from his position effective March 1, making room for Daniel G. Stoddard, current senior vice president of nuclear operations, to step into the role beginning Oct. 1.
During the seven-month transition, Stoddard will still report to Heacock – who will retain the presidency until his retirement – but will act under a “dotted-line” reporting relationship to CEO Paul Koonce.
“Dave’s knowledge and reputation in the nuclear industry is unparalleled,” Koonce said. “He is an expert on issues facing both the company and the industry as a whole. In the aftermath of the earthquake that struck near North Anna Power Station in 2011, he quickly guided the company and regulators. He also led the industry’s response to the safety analysis following the Fukushima nuclear incident in Japan. We are grateful for his knowledge and leadership. At the same time, Dan will pick up the mantle and continue making Dominion’s nuclear program a leader in the industry.”
Stoddard attended the U.S. Naval Academy, where he received his bachelor’s degree in marine engineering, as well as the University of Virginia, where he earned a master’s degree in nuclear engineering.
