Chartwell  recently named Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) as its 12th Annual Best Practices Awards “Gold Outage Communications” winner, recognizing FPL’s groundbreaking ticket notification system.

Chartwell, a specialized information provider for the utility industry, presented the award at its Energy Marketing and Customer Service Conference in Orlando.

FPL’s patent-pending proactive ticket notification system utilizes smart grid technology to provide advance warning for customer outages, enabling dispatchers to send work crews to resolve issues before customers are even experiencing problems.

“At FPL, we are building a stronger, smarter energy grid with which to deliver electricity our customers can count on in good weather and bad,” Eric Silagy, president and CEO of FPL said. “Our team is continuously looking for ways to leverage smart grid technology and information from our more than 4.8 million smart meters and thousands of intelligent devices across the grid to monitor the health of the system.”

FPL has been named as Florida’s most reliable energy company, performing 50 percent better than the national average for service reliability.

“It’s an honor to see our team’s exceptional work receive such recognition,” said Manny Miranda, senior vice president of power delivery for FPL. “This predictive technology is game changing, as it allows us to provide improved service reliability and a better customer experience by preventing longer unplanned outages and reducing response time for repairs when outages occur. It’s part of our continued commitment to deliver reliable service to our customers year-round.”
