General Electric (GE), Vestas and Siemens accounted for 76 percent, or 55 gigawatts, of the installed wind generating capacity in the United States at the end of 2015, according to the U.S. Energy Information Agency’s Annual Electric Generator Report.

Of the 8.2 GW of total wind capacity installed during 2015, the combined share of GE, Vesta and Siemens rises to more than 92 percent of new capacity.

Gamesa and Mitsubishi, two other major wind turbine manufacturers, accounted for 6 percent and 5 percent respectively for U.S. wind turbine capacity in operation at the end of 2015.

Since the 2002 purchase of Enron’s wind business, GE has consistently dominated the wind turbine manufacturing and installation industry in the United States. Between 2005 and 2015, GE averaged 44 percent of the annual share of installed capacity, which equates to 2.7 GW annually.

Major U.S. manufacturers are leading the way in China as well, with Vesta, GE and Siemens being the second, third and fourth largest global suppliers of wind turbines in 2015.
