NV Energy announced on Tuesday that it will offer renewable energy as an option to customers through the development of a new solar photovoltaic (PV) energy resource to be built in Clark County, Nevada, once the project is approved.

“We are developing the most cost-effective ways to bring more solar energy to our customers in a fair and balanced way,” NV Energy’s Vice President of Energy Supply Kevin Geraghty said. “Even though all of our customers are already served by more than 40 renewable energy resources located across Nevada, we fully appreciate and applaud the desire of some customers to be served by more renewable energy and to reduce or eliminate their reliance on fossil fuels.”

The facility is being developed in an effort to meet consumer demands for more renewable energy. The utility has been able to decrease rates for consumers over the last five years while offering more clean energy solutions to ratepayers. NV Energy is still waiting for its proposal for the construction of the facility to be approved. While the approval process is still underway, Geraghty said that the results looked promising.

The program will be offered through Nevada’s NV GreenEnergy Rider Initiative to customers with more than one megawatt of demand. NV Energy will accept applications for participation through May 20. Interested NV Energy customers are asked to apply on the company’s website.
