SolarCity broke into the Houston market for the first time on Monday, and will offer customers solar energy options starting at $40 per month, including installation, design, monitoring and warranty, in addition to a special partnership for MP2 Energy customers.

SolarCity, the leading solar power provider in the nation, installed more solar infrastructure last year than the next 50 solar competitors combined. The new facility marks SolarCity’s first installation center in Greater Houston, and the company expects to hire 50-100 local staff to run the facility.

Through a partnership, customers of the electricity retailer MP2 Energy will be able to apply retail credit resulting from energy surplus towards full net solar metering benefits. CenterPoint Energy is MP2 Energy’s transmission service provider.

SolarCity will provide various service options to Houston residents. New customers will be able to purchase solar energy infrastructure outright, including rooftop solar panels, or through finance systems using the company’s custom solar loan program. Customers can also lease solar panel systems to benefit from the energy resource without having to invest.

SolarCity offers flexible finance terms for its customers, which can include free installation. SolarCity is one of the few providers to also offer a battery storage system as a backup energy resource during outages.
