The Alliance to Save Energy named the recipients of its 24th Annual Star of Energy Efficiency Awards on Monday, including United States Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Ernest Moniz as a recipient of its public service award.

Moniz will receive the Charles H. Percy Award for Public Service in recognition of his leadership in enhancing the DOE’s energy efficiency standards. In his time as secretary, Moniz established the Accelerate Energy Productivity 2030 and Mission Innovation initiatives, and also worked to create public-private partnerships that established the nation as a clean energy leader. As a result, the U.S. will host the seventh annual Clean Energy Ministerial.

“What a delight and privilege it is to recognize my esteemed colleague and friend, Energy Secretary Moniz, who has proven to be a tried-and-true champion of energy efficiency,” Alliance to Save Energy President Kateri Callahan said. “Never before have we witnessed such a prolific increase in energy efficiency standards, programs and achievements in so short a time. I am absolutely certain he will be remembered as one of the most formidable efficiency advocates in the history of the Department.”

The Alliance to Save Energy also recognized Lockheed Martin; the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA); View, Inc.; the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD); and Guy Van Syckle for excellence in energy efficiency.

Callahan added that 2016 has been the most exciting year to date. She said the competition was tough, given a national increase in commitment to advance energy saving technologies.
