FirstEnergy announces incentives for all-electric vehicle purchases

FirstEnergy announced Wednesday several new discounts available to its customers for the purchase of electric vehicles.

Customers in all of its service territories are eligible, the company said, for a $3,000 rebate off the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) on the 2018 Nissan LEAF. To receive the discount, customers must show their FirstEnergy utility bill to a participating Nissan dealership.

Additionally, BMW is offering FirstEnergy customers in Maryland and New Jersey a $10,000 incentive toward the purchase of a new BMW i3 or BMW i3s. The rebate is applied to the best negotiated purchase price. Customers need to show their Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) or Potomac Edison bill at an authorized BMW dealership in New Jersey and Maryland and bring a completed Potomac Edison Customer Form or JCP&L Customer Information Form.

“Electric vehicles are becoming more popular as people recognize the environmental and sustainability benefits they offer,” Mark Julian, vice president of utility operations for FirstEnergy, said. “These types of rebates offer an incentive for those customers who want to support this environmentally friendly technology.”

Customers may also be eligible for up to $7,500 in federal electric vehicle tax credits as well as state incentives.Potomac Edison customers may qualify for a one-time Maryland excise tax credit of up to $3,000, and JCP&L customers may be eligible for a tax exemption.
