Rochester Gas & Electric awards grant to Akoustis Technologies
Rochester Gas and Electric Corporation (RG&E) recently awarded a $70,193 economic development grant to Akoustis Technologies, Inc. toward equipment and electrical infrastructure upgrades.
The grant will enable the company to grow its production and help meet its goal of investing $20 million in its Canandaigua facility. The outlay is expected to create 200 new jobs and retain 30 jobs already in place.
Akoustis manufactures bulk acoustic wave (BAW) high-band RF filters for mobile and other wireless applications. It plans to expand its manufacturing capacity further over the next several years.
New York State Electric and Gas (NYSGE) and RG&E President and CEO Carl Taylor said the companies are committed to helping high tech industries grow and expand their operations in the state.
“We play a vital role in encouraging businesses to remain in New York State and to attract new companies to our region,” Taylor said. “We’re confident our investments will boost New York’s local economies and raise the standard of living for residents.”
RG&E, a subsidiary of AVANGRID Inc., provided the grant through its Capital Investment Incentive Program, which is targeted for projects that involve major capital investment in plants and equipment. Support is based on the project’s overall economic impact to the community.

RG&E has provided over $85 million in economic development assistance across 450 projects.
