For as little as $3.53 per month, Indiana customers of the Indiana Michigan Power company (I&M) now have the option to attribute their energy use to renewable sources and support their continued use and costs.

The IM Green service allows I&M customers to attribute anywhere between 10 percent and 100 percent of their energy use to wind and solar. Based on an average 1,000 kilowatt hours of energy for a month, participants attributing 10 percent would spend $3.53, while those turning their full energy use to renewables would pay $35.53 per month.

However, the program is not stackable with I&M’s existing solar-only program, IM Solar, which is based on a flat per 50-kilowatt-hour block rather than percentages like IM Green. Customer payments from either program will go toward retiring Renewable Energy Certificates associated with the energy generated by the solar and wind plants in Indiana and Michigan.
