Con Edison asks Brooklyn customers to conserve energy during repairs

While working on equipment problems in Brooklyn, New York, Con Edison is asking customers to conserve energy to help maintain reliable service while the work is being done.

Further, Con Edison reduced voltage by 5 percent in the area as a precaution in the impacted area, which consists of 108,200 customers. The area includes the neighborhoods of Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Clinton Hill, and Fort Greene. It bounded by Newtown Creek on the north, the East River on the west, Pacific and Fulton streets on the south, and Throop and Graham avenues on the east.

Specifically, Con Edison has asked these customers not to use energy-intensive appliances such as washers, dryers, microwaves, and air conditioners, if possible.

Voltage reduction was also implemented in the Park Slope, Prospect Heights, and Windsor Terrace neighborhoods, but the utility has not asked customers in these areas to conserve energy.

The company is working with New York City Emergency Management as it works through these issues.
