The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) an the National Association of State Energy Official (NASEO) have formed a Task Force for Comprehensive Electricity Planning and assembled 16 states to represent it.

The 16 members were chosen from among 21 which requested to join the two-year initiative. Together, they will establish a forum to discuss and develop new approaches to distribution and resource planning processes. Once finished, both NARUC and NASEO will publish the created templates for use by all members at the state level.

Members include Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Ohio, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, Utah and Virginia.

“This process will help us stay ahead of rapidly accelerating technological advancements and extract the most value from them, rather than playing catch up and missing opportunities,” said Andrew McAllister, NASEO Board chair and task force co-vice chair of the California Energy Commission, said. “We look forward to working with our colleagues and stakeholders to improve the outcomes for everyone.”

Supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, task force members were chosen to maximize the diversity and representation of the nation’s various geographies, market models, planning approaches and state policy goals. It will begin meeting in the spring.
