Florida Power & Light Company to build four new solar power plants in 2019
Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) announced this week that it plans to build four new solar power plants this year that are expected to come online in early 2020.
The plants include FPL Okeechobee Solar Energy Center in Okeechobee County, FPL Hibiscus Solar Energy Center in Palm Beach County, FPL Echo River Solar Energy Center in Suwannee County and FPL Southfork Solar Energy Center in Manatee County.
Each of the new plants will have a capacity of 74.5 megawatts (MW) for a combined capacity of nearly 300 megawatts.
“The construction of four additional solar energy centers is just the latest demonstration of our laser focus on advancing solar energy for all of our customers, while keeping their bills lower than 90 percent of the country,” Eric Silagy, FPL president and CEO, said. “These solar plants are part of our commitment to installing 30 million more solar panels by 2030 across more than 100 new solar sites, resulting in the creation of thousands of jobs here in our state.”
FPL expects the new solar plants to provide an additional $26 million in net savings to its customers over the long-term.
FPL currently operates 18 solar power plants and hundreds of small solar installations with a combined capacity of approximately 1,250 MW.
