Smart Energy Consumer Collaborative releases report on consumers energy interests, actions

The Smart Energy Consumer Collaborative (SECC) released this week its latest report on U.S consumers’ energy-related actions, attitudes, and interests, which updates the organization’s consumer segmentation.

According to the report, titled Consumer Pulse and Market Segmentation – Wave 7, nearly 80 percent of Americans believe that more should be done to protect the environment, and approximately 76 percent say that the environmental benefits are a top reason for reducing their home energy use.

The report also found that 74 percent of consumers are either somewhat or very interested in receiving bill credits for reducing home energy usage during peak demand, 37 percent are interested in utility-scale renewable energy and 31 percent say they’re likely to buy a smart thermostat in the next 12 months.

The report introduces four new segments of energy consumers: Green Innovators, Tech-savvy Protégés, Movable Middle, and Energy Indifferent. The report provides insights into these consumer segments’ preferences and offers recommendations for how electricity providers and their partners can better meet their expectations.

The study is based on the responses of nearly 2,500 U.S. consumers who participated in an online survey.
