sPower, PSEG Long Island announce completion of solar plant in Riverhead, New York
sPower and PSEG Long Island announced Monday the completion of a 20-megawatt (MWac) solar plant in Riverhead, N.Y.
During the eight months of construction, sPower noted, the project employed approximately 220 workers and added over $8 million in local wages to Long Island’s economy.
sPower will remain the operator of the Riverhead project.
“We are honored to be long-term neighbors with Long Island communities,” sPower CEO Ryan Creamer said. “Bringing solar power to this state sets an example of civic responsibility to the rest of the country. Working hard with PSEG Long Island and numerous other teams was critical in making this vision a reality. I am proud of this milestone we’ve achieved and the teamwork that was demonstrated throughout the entire process.”
New York is aiming to completely decarbonize its electricity system by 2040 and remove 23,970 metric tons of CO2 each year. The Riverhead project will help move the state toward this goal, sPower noted.
