The American Automobile Association (AAA) maintains the national gas price average is poised to be potentially the cheapest Labor Day weekend average in three years.

“For Americans who bookend summer with road trips, they will find gas prices this coming weekend that are cheaper than this past Memorial Day and last year’s Labor Day holiday,” Jeanette Casselano, AAA spokesperson said regarding the $2.59 average. “At the start of the week, two-thirds of all states have gas price averages that are nearly a quarter cheaper than last year.”

A breakdown determined the nation’s top 10 largest yearly decreases were in Idaho (-43 cents), Louisiana, Indiana, Florida, Kentucky, Delaware, Utah, Mississippi, Alaska, and Oklahoma.

Hawaii ($3.64) reflected atop the nation’s top 10 most expensive markets, followed by California, Washington, Nevada, Oregon, Alaska, Utah, Idaho, Arizona, and New York.

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) has determined regional gasoline stocks drew by a little more than 1 million barrels, acknowledging overall levels sit at 83.2 million barrels – noting gas prices are poised to continue to push cheaper.

AAA said motorists can find current gas prices along their travel route with the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad, and Android, adding it can be used to map a route, find discounts, book a hotel and access AAA roadside assistance.
