Piedmont Natural Gas recently filed requests with the utility commissions in North Carolina and South Carolina to reduce the commodity charge for natural gas in the two states.

Piedmont also recently requested a rate increase to recover costs related to system growth, pipeline integrity management, infrastructure investments, and safety and security upgrades, the company said in a press release. The rate changes will result in a net decrease for customers in North Carolina and a met increase for customers in South Carolina.

North Carolina customers will see a net decrease in the average residential customer’s bill of 13 cents per dekatherm or $7.80 per year. The average residential customer’s bill in South Carolina will increase by 41 cents per dekatherm or $23 per year.

Piedmont requested a decrease in the benchmark cost of natural gas from $2.75 per dekatherm to $2.25 per dekatherm in both states. This change is expected to take effect in November 2019.
