Business Council for Sustainable Energy to discuss climate change at conference in Madrid
The Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) will attend the 25th Conference of the Parties at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change over the next two weeks in Madrid.
BSCE will highlight the rapid transformation that is happening in the energy sector to address the impacts of climate change. The council will call upon governments to develop rules that accelerate private sector investment to help countries meet their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
“Businesses and governments around the world are building momentum for climate impact through collaboration, coalitions, and campaigns across sectors,” BCSE President Lisa Jacobson said. “These partnerships, some of which will be presented at COP 25, show that embracing a diverse portfolio of clean energy solutions helps countries meet their Nationally Determined Contributions, enhance resilience, and create new jobs and inclusive pathways of growth. While progress is being made, data coming from the scientific community indicates that much more needs to be done.”
Jacobson stated that the emissions targets under the Paris Agreement require every sector of the economy to participate.
“Our members develop and deploy cost-effective low- and zero-carbon technologies and services that allow significant efficiency improvements and rapid emissions reductions. Based on these offerings, more ambitious climate targets are achievable with the technology that we have today,” Jacobson said.
BCSE is a coalition of companies and trade associations from the energy sector that advocates for policies that expand the use of commercially-available clean energy.
