NARUC appoints DC PSC Chairman Willie Phillips to chair Committee on Regulatory and Industry Diversity
District of Columbia Public Service Commission Chairman Willie Phillips was appointed the new chairman of the National Association of Regulatory Commissioners (NARUC) Select Committee on Regulatory and Industry Diversity this week to promote inclusion throughout the industry.
“I am honored to serve as Chair of the Select Committee on Regulatory and Industry Diversity,” Phillips said. “We’re looking to help create a pipeline of diverse businesses and professionals to change the essence of the discussion around diversity.”
The Select Committee holds three main jobs: promoting inclusion, advancing competitive opportunities for women, minority and service-disabled veteran-owned businesses, and bolstering relationships that provide economic benefits for these businesses, ratepayers, and investors alike. In taking the helm, Phillips replaces former commissioner Sadzi Olivia.
Phillips was named to the job by NARUC President Paul Kjellander.
“Chairman Phillips is the regulatory equivalent of a rock star. He is thoughtful and never takes on a task without giving it 110 percent,” Kjellander said. “I look forward to working with him in his new capacity as chairman of the Select Committee. He will help lead the committee on a path that helps NARUC remain relevant on issues associated with diversity in the utility and regulatory sector.”
Previously, Phillips was appointed as chairman in D.C. by Mayor Muriel Bowser in 2018. He has also worked for the North American Electric Reliability Corporation and Van Ness Feldman LLP and currently serves as president of the Mid-Atlantic Conference of Regulatory Utility Commissioners, on the NARUC board of directors, and as a member of several energy and utility associations.
