APS expands request for proposals to include development of 100-150 MW of solar on its property
The Arizona Public Service Co. (APS) announced this week the expansion of an existing all-source request for proposals (RFP) to include more solar power, offering an additional opportunity for applicants to develop solar generating resources on APS-owned land.
Originally, the RFP had sought 600-800 MW of renewable resources and between 400-600 MW of capacity resources. While the original RFP has been closed to further applicants, this new effort seeks out 100-150 MW of additional photovoltaic solar resources to be brought into service by early 2023 and owned by APS. Applicants for the latter will be evaluated separately from the former.
APS intends to reach a carbon-free power mix by 2050, and this RFP supports that effort. Currently, the company runs an energy mix that is approximately 50 percent clean. An independent monitor is overseeing the latest acquisition process.
Successful applicants could end up providing to some of the nearly 1.3 million homes in the APS service area, which spans 11 of Arizona’s 15 counties.
