Florida Power & Light opens eight new solar energy centers

Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) recently put eight new solar energy centers into service.

The eight new solar energy centers are capable of generating 596 MW of clean energy, enough to power 120,000 homes annually. With these new centers, FPL now has 50 solar energy centers in the state, which power roughly 750,000 homes each year.

“This important milestone for FPL is the product of our dedication to delivering cost-effective clean and reliable energy to our customers across the Sunshine State,” FPL President and CEO Eric Silagy said. “This time last year, we had 33 solar energy centers in operation. To now reach 50 solar energy centers is proof of our tireless pursuit of a cleaner energy future for today and future generations.”

The eight new solar energy centers are FPL Blue Springs in Jackson County; FPL Cotton Creek in Escambia County; FPL Ghost Orchid in Hendry County; FPL Sawgrass in Hendry County; FPL Elder Branch in Manatee County; FPL Sundew in St. Lucie County; FPL Immokalee in Collier County; and FPL Grove in Indian River County.

There are now approximately 2 million panels to FPL’s portfolio. The company expects to install 30 million solar panels across Florida by the end of 2025 – five years ahead of schedule. The 30 million solar panels are expected to generate approximately $2.5 billion in fuel savings for customers. Also, they will create more than 20,000 construction jobs and contribute more than $700 million in property tax payments.

FPL serves more than 5.7 million customers and 11 million residents across Florida.
