Tennessee Valley Authority seeks comments for proposed multi-county Appalachia transmission project
The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) asked for public comments this week on transmission system reliability improvements it proposed for the Appalachia area in Polk County, Tenn., and Cherokee County, N.C.
Currently, the agency has proposed investments of approximately $28 million, which will go toward building the Martins Creek Switching Station and a 27-mile steel power line. That line would run from the existing Appalachia Hydro Plant, running southeast to the Tap to Range and Harshaw Road-Weaver Transmission lines. These would then connect to the Martins Creek station.
The project would be one piece of the more than $2 billion TVA seeks to invest in transmission system improvements in its service areas through 2025.
For this multi-county proposal, TVA has begun taking public input through Feb. 20, 2023, at tva.virtual.com/appalachia, as well as by phone and email. It has also provided detailed maps showing the locations being considered for the proposed switching station and transmission line.
