Colorado Petroleum Council Executive Director Tracee Bentley announced this week that the American Petroleum Institute (API) hired Michael Paules as the new associate director for its division in Colorado.

“Paules is a well-known, reputable leader in the oil and natural gas industry,” Bentley said. “Paules’ experience is critical for Colorado at a key moment for local and state energy policy discussions. We are establishing the path forward for continued environmental protection, sound engineering, and safe
operating practices that have made Colorado a driving force in America’s global energy leadership.”

Paules has held a number of roles in the petroleum industry, working as a geologist, environmental, health and safety manager and regulatory affairs advisor at a variety of organizations. He holds a bachelors of science from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in geoscience and a masters of science in geology from West Virginia University.

“I am excited to join the leading industry voice committed to regulatory structures that promote safety, environmental protection, and responsible operations,” Paules said. “For more than 95 years, API has been the leader in developing industry standards that promote safety and reliability through the use of proven engineering practices under an ANSI-accredited process. Nearly 400 API standards are cited throughout federal and state regulations. Investing in Colorado energy means a long-term commitment to consumers, job creation and government revenue in the Centennial State.”
