Evergy hires new VP of state, federal regulatory policy

Evergy has hired Kevin Gunn as its new vice president of state and federal regulatory policy.

Gunn will join Evergy from NextEra Energy Resources, where he is executive director, regulatory and political affairs, central region. He brings to Evergy 20 years of experience in policymaking, energy and regulation. Previously, he served for five years on the Missouri Public Service Commission, including a stint as chairman. He also served on the board of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) and was co-chair of the NARUC Washington Action Committee. In addition, Gunn was a member of the executive committee of the Eastern Interconnection of States Planning Council and the Eastern Interconnection Planning Collaborative.

“I’m very excited to join the Evergy team to advance policies and strengthen relationships to create real partnerships between our company, our customers and our regulators that continue to ensure affordability, reliability and sustainability well into the future,” Gunn said. “We are at a critical juncture in our country’s energy future, and I look forward to working with Evergy to ensure that Missouri and Kansas meet that challenge.”

In his new role at Evergy, Gunn will focus in particular on the company’s work with Missouri and federal regulators and stakeholders and policies that support the company’s commitment to affordable and reliable service.

Gunn received the inaugural Terry Barnich Award in 2012 on behalf of the Missouri Commission and Staff for their partnership with Moldova. Also, he previously owned Paladin Energy Strategies, a regulatory affairs consulting firm.
