Indiana’s Vectren adds texting option for reporting outages

Evansville, Indiana-based utility company Vectren recently announced a new feature that allows customers to report power outages by text message.

Customers can report an outage by texting OUT to 83212. If the number is associated with a customer account, the user will be prompted to report for the address on file or identify a different address. If
Vectren does not recognize the phone number, the user will be prompted to identify their account with a phone number, address or account number.

“Enhancing our customer’s experience by providing another option to report a power outage via
smartphone was a top priority given the number of customers who own these devices and utilize them for similar tasks,” Brad Ellsworth, president of Vectren Energy Delivery of Indiana-South, said. “Outage
texting makes reporting even easier and provides customers with an additional self-service option, so we are urging customers to ensure we have their mobile number on file for a more streamlined reporting process”

Customers can also report outages via Vectren’s website and mobile application. Customers are encouraged to follow Vectren’s Twitter page for real-time updates on power outages.

The texting feature is part of Vectren’s Smart Energy Future plan, which the company announced in February.
