Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) introduced this week IM Home, a smartphone app that works with smart thermostats, and a program that provides customers with rebates for using the app.

IM Home can be downloaded on Apple and Android smartphones and allows users to control their home’s temperature from anywhere as well as manage energy costs. Participating in the program could result in as much of $161 of savings in bill credits and energy savings.

The app chooses the best time to cool a customer’s home based on their schedule and local weather, which results in energy savings.

Every time a customer participates in such an event, they will receive a $1.95 credit on their bill up to $29.25 per year. Users will be notified of these events in advances and can opt out if they so choose. If they opt out, they will not receive the credit.

IM Home is expected to reduce the energy costs of a typical residential customer who uses 1,000 kilowatt-hours of energy per month by approximately $132 per year.

Program participants may also be eligible for a rebate of up to $100 for the purchase of an ecobee brand thermostat and up to $125 for installation.
