The Maryland Public Service Commission (PSC) announced on Friday that PSC Chief Engineer Morris Schreim will serve in a new capacity as the PSC senior commission advisor following the resignation of Walter Hall last year.

As the senior commission advisor, Schreim will be responsible for guiding the PSC through programs and collaborations with other energy agencies, including the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the Pennsylvania, Jersey, Maryland (PJM) Power Pool.

The PSC serves to ensure that utilities uphold safety and quality standards, and Schreim will work to meet this end. Schreim has served the PSC as chief engineer since 2013 and currently lives in Montgomery County.

The PSC also announced that it appointed Andrew Dodge, former Baltimore Gas and Electric Company vice president of technical services, as the PSC chief engineer and director of emergency management. Dodge will assume Schreim’s duties as chief engineer moving forward. Dodge lives in Caroll County.

The PSC’s Engineering Division monitors utility operations for safety and efficiency, and ensures that all utilities in the state adhere to energy laws and regulations. The PSC role of chief engineer also works with the Maryland Emergency Management Agency to develop and implement emergency preparedness and response protocols in the event of a crisis, including an attack to the grid, an on-site emergency or a natural disaster.
